Ethanol is not an answer for gas substitute...

Several people have been touting this idea of using corn as a gasoline substitute. Well, they're wrong. It is not likely to be cost effective.

This is the subject of much debate. I found the wikipedia entry to be a nice summary of the pro- and con- sides of the debate in a somewhat objective fashion (i.e. this is what THESE guys argue, and this is what THESE guys argue"

One of the points of contention is the cost of producing it. Without having read up on it too much, it seems logical that it would cost too much in the US. On the other hand, in places like Brazil (which has shifted over 30 years from an oil-dependent country to an ethanol exporter) where the cost of human labor is cheap, it may indeed be feasible.

We should sell our cars and buy bicycles. Imagine all of the improvements we would see in pollution, traffic & congestion, our health, and our awareness of the environment around us.

Use of the car should be able to be a conscious decision, not a necessity.

What I want to know is: How is China? All family keeps asking and I have no answers for them. What I do know is the cottage rocks and I was ther for 2 days canoeing, pedal-boating and eating Grandma's food.
