Gears of War Storyline

Lots of the online forums have complained about a lack of storyline in Gears of War. I really think this has more to do with a lack of the storyline being exposed in the game. After playing through a second time I’m starting to understand more of the world the COG lives in and what is happening. I also took a glance at the strategy guide when at EB Games the other day. After reading through the backstory I think its much more thought out than people are giving the design team credit for.

There's a lot of back-story, perhaps, but it really doesn't matter much to the game, does it.

Arguably, it didn't in HL2 either, but I did feel that one was stronger in the story. At least I'm supposed to feel some attachment to Alex, her dad, etc. In GoW, I don't care for my squadmates other than they are useful to help attach the enemy. They are a resource, just like more ammo.

On the 'second time through', I'm doing it as well, but find it less pleasing. Still great, just less pleasing. I find I now 'see through' the AI, the trigger points, etc. You start to reverse engineer how it works, and it loses it's mystery.

The game does lack a lot of background story line for the monsters/aliens/demons whatever it is you're fighting, but I think character wise, there's enough plenty of enough to drive the game, and the characters have great personalities.

I think that this game has a very well thought out storyline. I really don't see how anyone could not like the storyline because it's so awesome. :)
